As the Ijaw National Congress (INC) prepares to elect its national officers, the Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson, has reaffirmed the support of his administration for the organisation and other related Ijaw organizations.
The Governor, who stated his position While speaking with Government House correspondents, emphasized that government has NO preferred candidate in the election.
As a one time national officer of the pan Ijaw outfit, the Governor warned against politicizing the umbrella organization.
Hon Dickson also advised the various candidates contesting for positions as national officers in the INC and other stakeholders to exercise caution and restraint in the way and manner they go about their campaigns, noting that INC election is not the same as running for an elective political office and therefore urged them to conduct themselves and carry out their campaigns with utmost decorum.
The Bayelsa State Governor equally called on all past presidents of the INC who have openly thrown their weight behind particular candidates of their choice to do so with the interest of the INC and the Ijaw nation at heart.
Governor Dickson stated that, government would work closely with the INC’s National Executive Council (NEC) and the Electoral Committee (ELECO) to ensure a transparent, credible and peaceful elections.
Meanwhile, the Bayelsa State Chief Executive is to hold a crucial meeting with the expanded Executive of INC to chart the way forward at the Ijaw House,Sani Abacha Expressway, Yenagoa on Thursday.
