A group of All Progressives Congress, APC Enugu State chapter has described as embarrassing the purported suspension of the state Acting Chairman of the party, Mr. Adolphus Udeh by the suspended state Chairman, Dr. Ben Nwoye.
Briefing newsmen in Abuja, Hon. Ejike Njieze disclosed that Dr. Ben Nwoye was suspended on July 3, 2017 following allegations of embezzlement of party funds, anti party activities and high handedness which he said was according to the provisions of the constitution of the party.
According to Njieze, Dr Nwoye despite all entreaties especially from party elders refused to appear before a committee set up between the Party and office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to answer questions about the running of the party in the state with regards to alleged embezzlement of party funds and anti-party activities.
Njieze who was flanked by other party chieftains said that instead, Dr. Nwoye set up a panel in Enugu to try the Petitioners thereby assuming jurisdiction and becoming a Judge in his own case which according to him was contrary to the provisions the party’s constitution.
“There is nowhere in the Constitution of our party where petitioners are suspended”, he declared.
On the issue of anti party activities, he said Dr. Ben Nwoye and others with him are in an unholy romance with the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Enugu alleging that state apparatus are made available to him to harass and intimidate party members with a view to disintegrating and plunging the party into crisis.
“Unfortunately, the state Police Commissioner has been aiding illegality by providing security for the suspended Chairman who invaded the party Secretariat on the 4th of July and held an illegal meeting thereafter he issued statements suspending some genuine members of the party.
“Is it not laughable that the suspended chairman will accuse the acting Chairman of breaking into the party secretariat where he has a functional office?
“Dr Ben Nwoye who happens to be a lawyer knows the constitutional channel available to him to appeal against his suspension if he feels his suspension was unlawful”, Njieze declared.
Declaring that they are loyal party members who want the party to win elections and have resolved to purge Enugu APC of compromised leadership and PDP moles within the party, he said “We implore all party members in the state to stay calm and focused and continue the hard work of building our great party in the state, positioning it to take over government at all levels by 2019 and disregard statements issued by the suspended chairman and his cohorts as that is the last dance of a drowning man.”
He therefore called on the National leadership of the party to step up and deal with what he described as ‘cankerworm in our great party.’
