Businessman in court for allegedly receiving, selling stolen vehicle

A 21-year-old businessman, Tertsea Adajume, on Friday, appeared in a Wuse Zone Six Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for allegedly receiving a stolen car.

The police charged Adajume, who resides at College Road, Aliede, in Benue, with two counts of receiving stolen property and forgery.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to offence.

 

 

 

The Prosecution Counsel, ASP Peter Ejike told the court that the complainant, Ramzi Ajeep of Kado Estate, Abuja reported the matter at the Wuse Zone Three Police Divisional Headquarters on Feb.8.

Ejike further alleged that sometime in June, 2020, the complainant’s Toyota Corolla with registration number: ABJ677ER was stolen by his driver, Sonnem Tsegha.

He said that the stolen vehicle was then kept in the defendant’s custody, who knew that the vehicle was brought to him under fraudulent circumstance.

 

 

 

 

Ejike in addition alleged that the defendant had on Nov.30, 2020 went to State High Court, Makurdi, and falsely deposed to an affidavit claiming ownership of the said vehicle.

He added that the defendant then proceeded to process the car’s particulars, and renewed them in his name.

According to the prosecutor, the defendant after obtaining all the documents by falsification of facts, went ahead, sold the car to one Thomas Dooir at the rate of N515,000 and converted the money to his personal use.

 

 

 

 

The prosecutor said that during police investigation, the defendant admitted to have committed the offence.

 

 

Ejike said that the offence contravened the provisions of section 319 and 364 of the Penal Code.

The Magistrate, Njideka Nwosu-Iheme, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N150, 000, with a reliable surety in like sum.

She adjourned the matter until April 1, for hearing. (NAN)
