Former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and ex-Nigerian Ambassador to Benin Republic, Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusufu Buratai (retired), led a high-profile delegation to Niger Barracks in Abuja to pay respects to the family of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja.
Lt. Gen. Buratai, a highly respected figure and Betara of Biu, visited the Flag Staff House to offer condolences to Mrs. Maria Lagbaja and her family.
During the visit, Lt. Gen. Buratai expressed his sympathies and shared reflections on the life and contributions of the late COAS.
He highlighted the distinguished service and dedication Lt. Gen. Lagbaja brought to his role, honoring his legacy with prayers for the bereaved family.
After sharing words of comfort, Buratai recorded his tribute in the condolence register, a symbolic gesture marking the solemn occasion.
Accompanying Lt. Gen. Buratai were several notable figures from the military and civilian sectors. These included Lt. Gen. Lamidi Adeosun (retired), former Chief of Policy and Plans; Maj. Gen. Iliya Abba (retired), former Military Secretary and Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force; and Brig. Gen. Sani Kukasheka Usman (retired), former Army spokesperson. Alhaji Manzo Ahmed, a businessman and former public servant, also joined the delegation, underscoring the widespread respect and admiration held for the late COAS.
The gathering reflected a united tribute from Nigeria’s defense and civilian communities, commemorating the life of Lt. Gen. Lagbaja, whose service left a lasting impact on the Nigerian Army and the nation.
