President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Bola Ahmed Tinubu as his pointsman to reconcile the fractured All Progressives Congress,APC. Tinubu is a former Governor of Lagos State and national leader of the party.
Buhari’s move was announced in a statement signed by Malam Garba Shehu, SSAP, media and publicity.
Shehu said “As part of on-going efforts to improve cohesion within the All Progressives Congress (APC), President Muhammadu Buhari has designated Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to lead the consultation, reconciliation and confidence building efforts.
“The assignment will involve resolving disagreements among party members, party leadership and political office holders in some states of the Federation.”
It could be recalled that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar defected from APC to PDP last year.
Recent reports also indicate that several high profile members of the party may defect owing to growing disaffection within the ruling party.
The open division within the Kano State chapter of the APC, highlighted by the rift between Governor Umar Ganduje and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has remained a source of concern to party members.
