Two hundred and fifty-two Special Advisers and Assistants in the service of the administration of Aminu Tambuwal Sunday, announced their resignation with immediate effect.
Addressing a Press Conference, Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki Haske, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, said they were no longer interested in working in the government of Tambuwal. They also said they were not ready to defect to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“From today, we have resigned our appointments as Special Advisers and Assistants from the administration of governor Aminu Tambuwal. We have nothing to do with the PDP government because we were appointed as members of the All Progressive Party (APC) of which we are still members,” he said.
Also speaking, Bello Maijama’a said they would remain bonafide members of the APC because, according to him, the administration of governor Tambuwal had done nothing for the people of the state.
“Our reason for remaining in the APC and resigning from our positions is that Tambuwal administration is something we cannot pride ourselves to be servants of. His administration is as good as non-existent because the people of Sokoto state have not felt any existence of governance,” he said in the Hausa language.
Applauding the resignees for their decisions, the state APC Chairman, Alhaji Isa Achida said the action could only be taken by advocates of development.
“I am happy for your decision to beat hypocrisy and fear. For you to forfeit your monthly income and follow your conscience it to show that your brevity has over-crowded fear. I extend the commendation of the APC to you. I also confirm to you that the party will reward you for this decision. This action displays your respect and loyalty for the APC,” he said.
However, speaking to Newsdiaryonline.com in response to the resignation, the Director General, Media and Publicity to Governor Tambuwal, Alhaji Abu Shekara said someone who has been relieved of his position cannot claim to resign from it.
“Let me confirm to you that all Special Advisers and Assistants serving this government were invited to Government House with a view to ascertaining their readiness to continue with the services for which they were appointed.
“The appointment of those that refused to come was terminated because it signified the fact that they were no longer interested to serve in Tambuwal administration. You cannot work with someone whose loyalty you question or will you?
”So, it is only laughable for someone whose appointment has been terminated to turn around to say that he is resigning from it. Resigning from what, a terminated appointment?” Shekara told Newsdiaryonline.
