Delta State Governor Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has frowned at the attitude of health workers especially medical doctors who abandon their duty posts for private practice.
Dr. Uduaghan expressed his displeasure on Wednesday afternoon when he paid an unscheduled visit to a private clinic in Warri and was shocked to find a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Dr. Dafe Adiki who was supposed to be on duty at the Central Hospital, Warri engaged in private practice at the Clinic.
“What are you doing here, you are supposed to be at your duty post and you are here? You are supposed to be attending to patients at the Central Hospital right now. This unwholesome practice is unacceptable to the State government,” an enraged Governor Uduaghan told the Dr. Adiki.
Still angry, Dr. Uduaghan asked: “What do you want me to do with you now? You had better report yourself to the Health Commissioner immediately and explain yourself to him and we will take it up from there.”
Dr Uduaghan noted that the attitude of health workers in the state was at variance with the State Government’s policy of providing good and quality health care for Deltans.
He called for a change in attitude and dedication to duty among health workers so that the people of the State would benefit from the various health programmes put in place by the state government.
The Medical Doctor, Dr. Dafe Adiki who was dumbfounded by the sudden appearance of the State Governor at the private Clinic explained incoherently that he had an emergency call from the clinic but had to attend to the call before leaving for his duty at Central Hospital Warri.
In a related development, the State Government has promised to restore Delta Steel Hospital Orhuworon in Udu Local Government Area back to its past glory.
Dr. Uduaghan who made the promise when he paid an unscheduled visit to the hospital said the decision was reached after his administration assisted DSC Technical High School to overcome its daunting challenges.
He explained that the hospital and the School would be assisted pending when the problems facing DSC were resolved by the Federal Government.
Speaking further the Governor decried the neglect of Delta Steel Company by the Federal Government and appealed for urgent resuscitation of the Company in interest of employment generation in the country.
He assured DSC workers that government would assist in the payment of their salaries and provide facilities for quality health care delivery.
Meanwhile Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan has assured the contractor handling the State Board of Internal Revenue Head Office Complex of prompt payment of all certified work.
Governor Uduaghan who gave this assurance while inspecting the on-going construction work at the office Complex commended the contractor for keeping to project specification and schedule.
He explained that the Board of Internal Revenue Headquarters was located in Warri because of the commercial nature of the city.
He added that the six floor building complex would assist the State in expanding its revenue base and increase its internal revenue operation adding that part of the complex would be rented out to generate revenue when completed.
“Warri is the Commercial Capital of the State and majority of the companies and organizations that the Board of Internal Revenue deals with are here in Warri, hence the Board of Internal Revenue Headquarters is situated here for easy access to its clientele,” he said.
