No fewer than 37,978 children were vaccinated against measles during the last immunisation in Zango Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Alhaji Salehe Tsagero, the acting Chairman of the local government area, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Zango on Thursday.

He said the initial target was 37,644 children but due to the collaborative efforts of the health personnel and traditional rulers in the area, the initial target was surpassed.

He said the exercise achieved 101 per cent coverage within its last six days.

Tsagero promised that the council would try to sustain the feat so as to reduce children mortality in the council area.

He commended the District Heads in Zango, Hafiz Yardaje and Hadi Rogogo, for enlightening their subjects on the importance of the vaccination.

The acting chairman added: “even in polio immunisation, we never performed below expectations.’’

He also commended the State Government for providing the necessary logistics which made the exercise a huge success.

Tsagero thanked parents in the area for allowing their children take the vaccine. (NAN)
