Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) says it is committed to postal evolution and customer service innovations by leveraging technology to ensure the postal system remains relevant and competitive globally.
The Postmaster-General of the Federation (PMG), Ms Tola Odeyemi, said this in Abuja on Friday while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the commemoration of the 2024 World Post Day.
Odeyemi emphasised the significance of the postal system towards providing essential connectivity between people, businesses, and governments.
According to her, NIPOST is expanding its services to include agency banking where it can handle financial transactions in its formations across the country.
“ POSTMONI is an electronic money order solution specifically designed to advance NIPOST ’s mission and national growth.
“We also intend to address verification issues by creating postcodes for every household.’’
“These solutions would connect the nation, build customer’s confidence and promote financial inclusion.”
The postmaster-general said NIPOST has leveraged partnerships with Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) and other relevant agencies.
“ With the implementation of the partnership with SMEDAN, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) customers can anticipate a 15 per cent reduction in courier service costs.
“ These partnerships are part of achieving our mandates, improve market access and enhance last -mile delivery capabilities, and contribute to job creation and economic development across Nigeria.
“ The project with NACA has entered its final stages for launching in Taraba and Abia States with all facilities in place for the implementation of the transportation of biological samples within the country.
“ This initiative is part of the efforts to strengthen the referral of biological specimens in the country, using the National Integrated Sample Referral Network (NiSRN) approach by leveraging NIPOST effective delivery network.”
According to her, postal services offer a framework for reliable, efficient, and affordable international mail exchange, expand communication, innovation, and empowerment that the service has championed over the years.
She also announced the issuance of a commemorative N250 postage stamp featuring the 2023 World Post Day logo, marking 150 years of the postal service worldwide.
NAN reports that the 2024 World Post Day, which is celebrated annually in the month of October, has “150 years of enabling communication and empowering peoples across nations” as its theme.
The Day celebrates the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) and serves as an opportunity to educate the public on the vital role of postal services in socio-economic development globally. (NAN)
