Sokoto Zakat Committee Nets N77.5m

Sokoto state Zakat and Endowment Committee has collected a total sum of N77,493,476.00 in the 62 Districts of the Sokoto Sultanate during 2013 and 2014.

According to the Chairman of the Committee, Alhaji Muhammad Maidoki, 85 committees across the state were set up to collect money, including food items and animals as Zakat.

He added that a total of 8,631 indigent people benefited from the Zakat.

Of the 62 Districts, Yabo became first by donating N7,536,000 in 2013 and 2014. This was followed by Isa District, second with N4,675,000 and Gidan Madi District, third with N4,173,455. The least was Gumburawa District from where the sum of N108,000 was collected.

Five District Heads of Yabo, Isa, Gidan Madi, Gada and Wamakko were presented with plagues and letters of commendation for excelling in the collection of Zakat and Endowment.

Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar commended the district Heads for the efforts, the Muslim clerics for their enlightenment campaigns and members of the Zakat Committee.

He called on the people of the state to continue to pay Zakat from the bounty bestowed on them by God.
