Ward congresses were today conducted across the 23 local government of Sokoto state with Governor Aliyu Wamakko disclosing that more Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors would soon defect to the All Progressive Party (APC).
Conducted simultaneously across the wards, the party adopted consensus arrangement where a total of 7,808 ward officials were elected to various party positions.
Wamakko said that the consensus arrangement was an indication of a good beginning for the APC. “We adopted consensus in the ward congress based on the consent of the people. So, the idea was not imposed on them but an agreement to ensure equity and justice.”
Only yesterday, Governor Wamakko disclosed that more governors and prominent politicians from the PDP would soon join the APC.
He observed that Nigerians were convinced that the APC was the only alternative party in the country that was set to ensure good governance. “This explains why many politicians who share same ideology and concern for the country including governors of the PDP are gearing up seriously to join the APC as the only hope for Nigerians.”
Meanwhile, Newsdiaryonline observed that the exercise was conducted peacefully with party members waiting in the scorching sun to listen to names of their ward executives.
At Kebbe Local Government, the council chairman, Bala Kokani told Newsdiaryonline that the mode of congress election conducted across the state had affirmed the party’s purposeful leadership.
Mahe Abdullahi, APC member told Newsdiaryonline that the congress election would ensure post election harmony because “there is no imposition in any way.”
