The National Ear Care Centre Kaduna, said on Thursday it would partner the National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) to raise awareness on emerging diseases affecting throat, ear and nose, to enhance access to treatment.
The Medical Director of the centre, Dr Mustapha Yaro, said when he received executive council members of Kaduna State chapter of NAWOJ in his office, that people need information on treatment and how to avoid contracting diseases that would adversely affect these vital areas of the body.
According to him, NAWOJ is capable of enhancing such information and sensitising people to seek for quality health care in respect of ENT to avoid permanent damages.Yaro explained that the centre provides professional ear, nose and throat services, and also conducts research on issues pertaining to them to enhance proper care and professionalism.The medical director, who assumed duty four months ago, said the centre is facing some clinical and administrative problems, which it is working to overcome.He assured that the centre is now working tirelessly to improve service delivery to patients in line with its mandate, and to reduce medical tourism.
According to him, his target is to provide comprehensive quality medical services to patients at the centre.Yaro also said that the hospital is looking at ways to enhance its revenue, noting that funding in the health sector in Nigeria is very low.”We are also collaborating with the National Health Insurance Scheme to provide and reduce out of pocket expenditure by patients and Nigerians generally,” he said.
The medical director expressed appreciation for the visit while describing NAWOJ as the eye of the nation.Earlier, NAWOJ Chairperson in the state, Fatima Aliyu, said the body would partner the hospital to enhance media coverage, especially in the areas of services it offers, including raising awareness on emerging diseases affecting ears, nose and throat.(NAN)
