A cleric, Rev Emmanuel Adeniyi, has urged Christians to vote wisely during the forthcoming general elections to secure brighter future for the country.
Adeniyi of the Banner of Christ Church, Adegbayi, Ibadan, gave the advice on Sunday in his first sermon in the new year.
Adeniyi noted that the Feb. 16 Presidential and National Assembly elections were very significant in the history of Nigeria.
According to him, the outcome of the elections will play vital role in the affair of the country.
“It is therefore behooves on every eligible Nigerian to vote candidates that have integrity, charisma and leadership qualities to rule the country.
“Christians and other Nigerians should take the forthcoming elections seriously and cast their votes for candidates that would rule with the fear of God.
“Do not mortgage the future of our children through monetary gains or gratification but be determined to vote according to your conscience.
“Prayer alone cannot give us good leaders but our decisions to vote rightful candidates will make us achieve our dreams for the nation.” the cleric said.
Adeniyi, therefore, appealed to politicians to see the forthcoming elections as a national duty and should not be a ‘do-or-die-affair.’
He pleaded with all the candidates to accept the outcome of the elections in good fate rather than resulting to violence.
The Cleric expressed optimism that the general elections would be successful and violence-free.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the church held special prayers for the nation to witness successful conduct of the general elections.(NAN)
