Former Commissioner of Ministry for Local Government and Community Development, Alhaji Manir Dan Iya has emerged the Sokoto state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate by consensus.
Rising from a stakeholders’ meeting held Monday at the Presidential Lodge, Governor Aminu Tambuwal said the decision was a unanimous one conducted by raise of hands to indicate individual consent on the consensus.
“This is all stakeholders meeting in which all are in attendance. Former governor Attahiru Bafarawa, former deputy governor, Mukhtari Shagari and Alhaji Abdallah Wali sent in apologies that they would not attend.
“The PDP has agreed on either consensus, indirect or direct primary elections to produce her flag-bearers at all levels. In line with that, this meeting unanimously endorsed Alhaji Munir Dan Iya as the PDP governorship candidate ‎in Sokoto state.
“We have resolved to ensure that the party continues to rule the state as well as win elections at all levels, including the ‎presidential election.
“In the same vein, the meeting agreed to give automatic tickets to all National Assembly members that defected to the party,” Tambuwal said.
He called on all supporters to continue to support the ‎party in order to achieve success at all levels of electioneering.
Until the nomination, Dan Iya had served as Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development since 2015 until Tambuwal dissolved the State Executive Council, recently.
Speaking with news men shortly after the meeting, Dan Iya said he was ready to work with supporters to ensure victory for the party in the state.
“I am overwhelmingly happy for the trust and confidence reposed in me. I will work with party supporters to ensure that the state continues to be in the grips of the PDP,” he said.
