2019: Cleric names qualities of leaders Nigerians should vote for

As Nigerians warm for the 2019 general elections, the Chief Imam of University College Hospital (UCH),Ibadan, Alhaji Maamunu Muhammadu-Awwal , has advised them to vote for leaders with the fear of God..

Muhammadu-Awwal gave the advice on Sunday in Ibadan during the 11th Annual Maolid Nabiy and Remembrance Lecture in honour of late Shelkh Yusuf Sanni at the Revival Arabic High School, Ibadan.

The late Sanni was the founder of Revival Arabic High School and Alasalatu Muslihatudeen Society of Nigeria in Elekuro, Ibadan.

The cleric also urged Nigerians to vote for leaders who would listen to the yearning and aspiration of the poor masses.

The cleric said such leaders to be voted for must also be those that would ensure that “the wealth of the masses does not concentrate in the hands of few individuals.”

He tasks those vying for various political offices to give the masses their due rights when in power, reminding them that they would one day account for their stewardship before God.

“We expect them to show mercy on the masses by ensuring the circulation of wealth so that poor people can benefit from the dividend of democracy,’’ Muhammedu-Awwal said.

He described late Sanni as a scholar of repute who impacted positively on the life of majority of people within and outside Ibadan.

Muhammadu-Awwal called on.the organisation to build on the legacy of the scholar.

One of the sons of the late Scholar, Prof. Amidu Sanni, said the aim of the annual remembrance lecture was to encourage people to emulate the character of the late scholar.

He noted that the late Sanni contributed immensely to human capital development.

The don’t, who is the Vice- Chancellor of Fountain University, Osogbo, said the organisation was trying to establish an entrepreneur centre that would benefit the people of Oyo State and Nigeria in general.

He, however,  advised Nigerians to improve themselves intellectually.

Dignitaries at the occasion include Alhaji Ismail AbdulWaheed , Chief Imam, Ibonnu, Epe, Lagos State,  Alhaji Shakibu Olabanji and Alhaji Rasaq Onafeso among others. (NAN)
