Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party (ANRP) says it has adopted Option A4 system of primary election for all its internal polls ahead of 2019 general elections.
In a statement by its national spokesperson, Mr Sesugh Akume, on Wednesday in Abuja, the party said it was adopting the option as part of its ethos of honesty, fairness, openness and transparency disposition.
According to it, Option A4 which is also known as the open ballot system of voting has helped us to hold internal elections at all levels.
“The elections are held without any rancour, misunderstanding or bitterness, using the option A4 voting system.
“As our party’s ethos of honesty, fairness, transparency and openness all pointing towards true democracy, we shall work to keep this system even for generations to come,’’ it said.
The party said that the June 12, 1993 presidential election was adjudged free and fair the emergence process of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate was through Option A4 Open Ballot system.
It noted that June 12 was not about the South-West alone but about Nigeria and the yearnings of Nigerians for democracy and good governance.
It acknowledged that patriots across the country had striven to make it a reality, adding that the labour of past heroes and patriots was not in vain.
The party, however, observed that only male compatriots were recognised by President Muhammadu Buhari for the national honours.
“This confirms one of the criticisms of the Buhari Administration as being very chauvinistic and exclusive in favour of men.
“Many women fought for the actualisation of June 12; some, including Kudirat Abiola, paid the ultimate price for it,” it said.
It pointed out that it was important to build an inclusive society that was sensitive to gender and other issues that were prone to be blinded to.
The ANRP called on the Federal Government to release the June 12, 1993 election result and not to stop at making the day Democracy Day and honouring acclaimed winner of the election, Chief MKO Abiola.
It urged Nigerians to vote unanimously against divisiveness and polarisation in the country in 2019 polls.
“June 12 provides an opportunity for every Nigerian to reflect on our unity in diversity and begin to take steps to create harmony to heal our land.” (NAN)
