Governor Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto state has told teeming supporters of the All Progressive Party (APC) that President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari urges them to shun violence and provocation while celebrating his victory.
The governor delivered the message to members of the party during its monthly stakeholders’ meeting in Sokoto on Saturday.
“I was with Buhari in Abuja two days ago and his main message to the members and supporters of the party in the country was that while celebrating victory, we should be cautious so as not to endanger the
lives of others; that we should not cause violence or destruction of property; and that we should not kill or maim other Nigerians,” he said.
Without peace and unity Wamakko observed, “the much-needed change cannot be brought about successfully by the incoming APC-led administration.”
He said that the stakeholders’ meeting was to appreciate God for the successes recorded by the APC during the Presidential elections.
“The meeting is to review the feat that we achieved and also show appreciation to God and the people of the state as well as look at how to move forward,” Wamakko said.
He called on the people of the state to come out en masse and vote APC during the governorship and state assembly elections. “We should all troop to the polling stations on that day and vote massively for the party’s candidates,” Wamakko appealed.
Those that attended the meeting included the APC governorship candidate, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal; Speaker of Sokoto State House of Assembly, Alhaji Abubakar Tureta and Senate and House of Reps members who won last week’s election.
