An elder in the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Tajudeen Olusi, says the state chapter stands with President Muhammadu Buhari for declaring as illegal the tenure elongation of national and state executives of the party.
Olusi, leader of the elders of Lagos APC said in Lagos on Tuesday that Buhari ‘s call for the reversal of the tenure extension was commendable.
the president had on Tuesday urged the National Executive Committee of the party to reverse the decision that granted tenure elongation to party executives of the party at all levels.
Buhari had, at the party ‘s NEC meeting in Abuja, said the extension was at variance with the party ‘s constitution.
Reacting, Olusi who had recently led a meeting of elders in the state’s chapter to condemn the extension, said APC in the state had been vindicated by Buhari ‘s statement.
He said the state chapter was pleased that the president spoke the truth on the matter and that his position tallied with that of the APC in the state.
“We in Lagos APC are very happy that President Muhammadu Buhari has spoken the truth on the tenure elongation saga.
“This state chapter has recently called the attention of the party and that of the president to the fact that the decision to extend the tenure was against the constitution of the party and that of the country.
“We are happy that the president has examined the issue and has taken the right position.
“We want to commend him; we want to thank him, we want to congratulate him on this and we wish him all the best in the next election,” he said.
Olusi said Lagos APC would always operate in accordance with the constitution of the party.
“We are awaiting directives on the issue from the party,” he said.(NAN)
