The Sokoto State University (SSU) has so far received a total sum of N2.9 billion from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) in the past seven months for the provision of physical structure.
Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Nuhu Yaqub disclosed this in Sokoto on Thursday during the second matriculation ceremony held at the University Park of the Main Campus.
“In terms of physical structure, we have so far received the sum of N2.9 billion within the last seven months from TETFund and this sum shall be used to provide, among other things, two large lecture theatres; commencement of the Faculty of Science building; laying of Internet facility, which will make the whole campus ICT compliant,” he stated in his speech. This according to Prof. Yaqub, is apart from the state government’s intervention in many areas.
He added that although 1,002 students were admitted into the university, 979 registered.
Prof. Yaqub called on the students to work hard. “We expect you to be a set that is motivated by such ideals of being hard working students who are committed to your studies.”
Of these students, in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, 42 were matriculated from the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies; 93 from the Department of Economics; 40 from the Department of English and Linguistics; nine from the Department of Nigerian Languages (Hausa); 13 from the Department of History; 57 from Department of Geography; 90 from the Department of Sociology and 89 from the Department of Political Science.
Also, in the Faculty of Education, 34 students were matriculated from Education Computer Science; 26 from Education Chemistry; 39 for Education Guidance and Counseling; 54 for Education Management; six for Education Mathematics; 17 Education Physics and 27 for Education Biology.
In the Faculty of Science, 77 students were matriculated from Department of Microbiology; 88 from Department of Biochemistry; 29 from Department of Physics; 12 from Department of Mathematics; 22 from Department of Biological Sciences; 21 from Department of Chemistry and 79 from Department of Computer Science.
