Colonel Abubakar Dangiwa Umar (retd), former governor of Kaduna state and ‘June 12 fundamentalist’ has hailed the decision of President Goodluck Jonathan to rename University of Lagos after Moshood Abiola,winner of June 12,1993 presidential elections.
Abiola’s election was annulled by the military and Umar resigned from the military in protest against the annulment.He became a crusader and chanmpion in the struggle for the restoration of June 12 mandate.
In a text message to Newsdiaryonline.com before the students’ protest in Lagos today, Umar said “The decision by the FGN to rename University of Lagos to Moshood Abiola University is long overdue.I salute the President for his magnanimity and courage.Thank God common sense has finally prevailed.”
