The Wife of Katsina State Governor, Hajiya Zakiya Masari, has presented 120 sewing machines, 80 spaghetti making machines and 80 bags of flour to women in Daura zone as part her women empowerment scheme.
Masari, who presented the items to the beneficiaries in Daura on Saturday, said the gesture was aimed at alleviating poverty among women and ensure provision of democratic devidend to the people.
She said the machines were distributed to the beneficiaries after intensive skills acquisition training at the vocational training centres at Daura, Bindawa and Kusada local government areas.
She said other items including spahghetti machines and the flour bags would be given to 80 rural women and those living With disability to boost their economic fortunes.
The governor’s wife expressed Gov. Aminu Bello-Masari administration’s commitment to bring development to every part of the state, irrespective of political, cultural or religious differences, stressing ”we are committed to creating a new Katsina State”.
Mrs Masari commended the Wife of the president, Hajiya Aisha Buhari, for her regular support to empowerment programmes and other developmental issues, adding the first lady constructed a multi million naira child and maternal Health center in Daura.
She called on the beneficiaries to ensure judicious use of the items, saying ”we would in due course expand the scope of the programme to accommodate more beneficiaries”.
Alhaji Abubakar Mashi, the council Director of Education and social services, said those who would receive the sewing machines were trained in six key areas.
He said the areas included introduction to tailoring, classification of sewing machines, care, repaires and maintenance of the machines, measurement, cutting, drams and styles.
Mashi called on the beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunity by becoming indepebdent, while commending the governor’s Wife for the programme.
Alhaji Lawal Kado, the acting Chairman of Daura Local Government, lauded the consistent efforts of the governor’s wife.
He said the activities and impact of the first lady’s effort had cut across the 12 local councils in Daura zone, stressing we would not relent in supporting developmental programmes.
He described Gov Aminu Masari as people’s governor who channeled development to every part of the state, stressing Masari restored security and introduced probity and accountability in the civil service.
Madam Hadiza Zango, the spokesperson of the beneficiries, described the gesture as a welcome development.
She assured that the beneficiaries would make judicious use of the items.
“I am an NCE undergraduate and the machine would supplement my income.”
NAN reports that Daura zone comprises 12 local governments of Daura, Zango, Sanamu, Baure, abd Maiadua.
Others are Bindawa, Ingawa, Kankiya, Kusada, Dutsi, Mashi and Mani local government areas. (NAN)
