Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi has debunked media reports of a rift between him and members of the State House of Assembly.He said contrary to the reports, he holds the lawmakers in “high regard”.
A statement signed by Mrs Ibim Semenitari,commissioner of information and communications said “The Rivers State Government is surprised at news reports of a rift between Governor Chibuike Amaechi and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly. Governor Amaechi holds members of the Rivers State House of Assembly in high regard.
The statement said further “Having served in that same House for 8 years, he appreciates the strategic role of the Assembly in ensuring that government is held accountable to its electorate and will work with them to guarantee the rights of all Rivers people.
Also the state government has restated it commitment to pay the civil servants their entitlements. “The Rivers State Government also wishes to reiterate the fact that it is committed to paying civil servants their hard earned pay because it is their due and not a privilege” the statement said.
”It is however important for government to confirm that it has paid salaries of its workers for the month of March and will very soon commence the payment of April salaries”, the government said further
“Once again government wishes to appreciate the kind understanding of Rivers workers as it strives to ensure that it meets its obligations to them.”
