Dr Godfrey Bawa, a governorship aspirant in Plateau, has said that youths in the state must be engaged meaningfully to reduce their availability for violent clashes in the state.

Bawa, who is an international businessman, said in an interview in Jos on Sunday that if elected, he would use his international connections to lure investors to Plateau.

“If jobs are created and the youth are empowered, they won’t be available to be used to perpetrate what we are currently experiencing.

“Security in the state will be given adequate attention by my administration, if elected as the governor of the state.

“We will engage in robust dialogue and explore it to the letter because without peace there is no way we can develop the state and bring about the desired progress.

“In the process of dialogue we will accommodate the viewpoints of all because what we cannot see others may see and we will harmonise the views to arrive at an enduring peace.”

Bawa, a political associate of the incumbent governor, Simon Lalong said he would create a conducive atmosphere for agriculture to thrive and move from subsistence to mechanised farming.

He said that he has already declared his intention at his ward and local government to contest on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“I was overwhelmed with the kind of support I received at ward and local government, it clearly shows that the people need a new direction.

“I am ready to provide that new direction. The direction that will provide better healthcare for our people, a direction that will construct roads for our people to safely link parts of the states with their agricultural produce,” he added.

Bawa said that the PDP has learned its lesson and was ready to reclaim power in the country.

He said that the party had apologised for past mistakes and asked for forgiveness and believed Nigerians have forgiven it. (NAN)
