The Administration of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has positive plans to transform Nigeria into one of the most developed countries in the world.
Speaking while receiving the Canadian Minister of International Cooperation in his office at the State House Abuja, Vice President Sambo expressed the positive steps Nigeria is taking to achieve the feat.
He said that as a measure to addressing factors that are militating against Nigeria’s growth, efforts are directed at revamping the healthcare delivery system, boosting transportation, arresting security challenges, development of education, agriculture, power and other sectors to move the nation forward.
He used the occasion to call on Canada to continue to support Nigeria in these areas particularly in arresting terrorism and militancy. Arc Sambo thanked the minister for the support a Canadian firm is providing towards driving a successful privatization programme in the power sector. He expressed confidence in the Bi-National Commission Agreement and posited that it will be of mutual benefit to both countries.
Earlier, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb Isa Ashiru, while introducing the Minister, said he was in the country to begin to give effect to the recent Bi-National Agreement signed between both countries.
In his remark, the Canadian Minister of International Cooperation Julian Fantino expressed the interest of the government and people of Canada in the kind of progress being made in Nigeria. He said that the agreement provides great opportunities for both countries to continue to be good friends and explore areas of beneficial relationship. He noted the interest of the Canadian government in polio eradication, maternal and child mortality, law enforcement especially in conflict resolution and addressing terrorism, and called on both countries to work toward eliminating these vices. He expressed his happiness over the dialogue he had with the people and noted that there is a lot of positive information to take back to Canada.
