The Director General of National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control ,NAFDAC,Mr Paul Orhii was on Monday quizzed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,EFCC over alleged award of contracts to fronts, other related fraud and abuse of office.
Orhii who arrived at the EFCC office in the morning was granted bail in the evening after several hours of questioning, reports said.
Though no official statement was issued by the EFCC over the interrogation of the NAFDAC DG, the man in the eye of the storm,Orhhi later in the day issued a statement claiming that he was not arrested .He said he had reported to the EFCC office on his own.
Orhii’s clarification which was contained in a statement Abubakar Jimoh, the agancy’s director of special duties also stated that the EFCC was quizzing him based on a petition by Mr Demola Mogbojuri ,a former director of finance.
Orhii however stated that the corruption allegations against him were “unsubstantiated, mindless and spurious”,as reported by Channelstv.
The NAFDAC boss is the latest in the string of renewed high profile interrogations carried out by EFCC since the inauguration of President Muhammadu Buhari.Some of those quizzed include ex governors Ikedi Ohakim of Imo State,Murtala Nyako of Adamawa state and Sule Lamido of Jigawa state along with his two sons among others.
The Commission also last week quizzed Mrs Toyin Saraki,wife of incumbent Senate President as well as Zainab YarAdua, daughter of late President Umaru YarAdua.
