The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced the extension of its verification exercise for the recovery of import duties on privately-owned aircraft. Initially set to conclude on October 14, 2024, the exercise will now run until November 14, 2024, giving operators an additional month to regularize their import duties.
The extension follows positive responses from aircraft operators expressing their intention to comply with the necessary import regulations. This move is in line with the NCS’s commitment to ensuring that all privately imported aircraft meet legal requirements, fostering greater transparency and accountability in the aviation sector.
In a statement, Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, emphasized the importance of compliance with import duty laws and reiterated the Service’s commitment to upholding the integrity of Nigeria’s aviation industry. He urged aircraft operators to take advantage of the extended period to avoid penalties that may arise from non-compliance.
The Customs Service appreciates the ongoing cooperation of stakeholders and remains dedicated to ensuring that the aviation sector adheres to all legal obligations.
The extension is expected to provide a final window for private aircraft owners to comply before enforcement actions are taken post-deadline.
