Reports from Yola said Barrister Bala Ngilari has been sworn in as the governor of Adamawa State.The event followed a directive by the Attorney General of the Federation ,Mr Mohammed Adoke that the Chief Judge of the State should immediately swear in Ngilari.
Adoke’s order came on the heels of a verdict delivered by Hon. Justice Adeniyi Ademola of Federal High Court, Abuja on 8th October 2014, sacking the acting governor Ahmadu Fintiri.
Aside from ordering the swearing in of Ngilari, Adoke also said “ The Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) is also called upon in obedience to the judgment of the Federal High Court to keep in abeyance all the arrangements made for the conduct of the bye-elections scheduled to take place in Adamawa State on Saturday, 11th October 2014”.
Ngilari’s triumph has been seen as a major test of the processes that led to the impeachment of ex Governor Murtala Nyako.In fact while congratulating his ex deputy ,Ngilari after today’s verdict,Nyako also expressed hope that he could still regain his seat in “no too distant future”.
For now Ngilari will savour his triumph while fintiri gets an opportunity to reflect on the road he has travelled so far.
