The Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, has promised his support for the newly established Edusoko University, Bida, Niger State, to ensure its successful operations.
Abubakar made the pledge when the management of the university, led by the Vice-Chancellor, Dr Gogul Satyanarayana, paid him a courtesy visit at his Wadata Palace in Bida on Sunday.
The first class traditional ruler said that the establishment of the university would transform the educational landscape of Bida Emirate, Nupe people, Niger state and the country at large.
According to the Etsu Nupe, the institution will also provide youths in the kingdom with more opportunities to acquire higher education, contribute to manpower development and provide job opportunities.
He assured the management of the university that he would continue to give all necessary support to the school for it to move forward.
The Etsu Nupe promised to do everything humanly possible to ensure the speedy growth and development of the institution.
He assured that his doors would remain open to the management of the university for a sustainable consultation, wise counsel and moral support.
“Education is the life-wire for the development of the society and as such, requires the support of all and sundry to save it from total collapse.
“Funding of the education sector at all levels should not be left to the government alone as it is capital intensive, and as such, well-meaning individuals and groups should always support its funding,” he added.
Earlier, Satyanarayana told the Etsu Nupe that the delegation was in his palace to thank him for his support and wise counsel for the growth and development of the school.
“We are here to commend His Royal Highness for all the necessary support you have been rendering to the young university since its inception.
“We are planning to introduce some short courses that will help to engage the teeming youths in the area meaningfully as well as boost the revenue base of the school,” he said.
According to him, such courses will include soap making, graphic designs, digital businesses as well as the introduction of the JAMB CBT centre.
The vice chancellor therefore solicited the support of the royal father towards getting speedy accreditation and approval of the courses by the National University Commission (NUC). (NAN)
