The police on Monday arraigned two men: Dauda Amuda, 25, and Toheeb Tajudeen, 18, before Magistrate G. O. Anifowoshe of an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State over alleged theft of a motorcycle worth N180,000.
The accused whose addresses were not provided in court are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp. Victor Eruada, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Dec.17, 2017 at Mosan Area of Ipaja, a suburb of Lagos.
Eruada said the accused stole the motorcycle with Reg. No. NN 753 UQ, belonging to Mr Rilwan Mohammed from where he parked it.
“The complainant saw the accused on his motorcycle while attempting to escape with it and he had to raise an alarm for help. The accused persons were, however, caught by the members of the public who intercepted them, and handed them over to the police.
The offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates a three-year jail term for offenders.
The duo, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
In her ruling, the magistrate, Mrs G. O. Anifowoshe, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until Jan. 29, for mention. (NAN)
