The Nigeria Police Force says it has terminated its partnership and Memorandum of Understanding ( MoU ) with Mr Edirin Wesley of Skytick Technology Global Ltd.
The partnership and Memorandum of Understanding was for the establishment of Nigeria Police Broadcasting Service (NPBS).
Force Spokesman, Acting DCP Jimoh Moshood, on Thursday in Abuja, said in a statement that the management of the force met with Wesley on Oct. 15 and agreed on the termination of the MoU.
He said that this was consequent on the discovery of several inadequacies, flaws and impracticability of the project.
According to him, the inadequacies were discovered to run contrary to the policy of Nigeria Police Force and Federal Government of Nigeria’s constitutional and statutory restrictions forbidding the Force from being an internal revenue generating agent.
Moshood said that National Broadcasting Commission’s code was explicit on the setting up and running of a broadcasting station in Nigeria.
“The commission considers it constitutional and statutorily unacceptable the setting up of the NBS to be operated on commercial basis by the force or its agents or partners under the name of NPBS,” he said.
He explained that NPBS would only consider an application for a broadcast license from the force, on the condition that it had full control and authority over the license and the broadcast station established by it.
“This position was upheld by the supervising ministry to NBC which further advised that fresh application may be submitted separately by the force for license solely under the control and authority of the force,” he said.
The spokesman implored the public to desist forthwith from any engagement, association, collaboration, contribution, relationship or partnership with Wesley and Skytick Technology Global Limited and his associate.
He advised all Police Formations across the country to terminate all relationships with Wesley on the establishment of the NBS.
Moshood said the Inspector-General of Police Monitoring Unit had been directed to commence investigation into all the activities Wesley of Skytick Technology Global Ltd.
He urged members of the public to report any contribution – monetary, landed or other property – made or extorted from them on account of the establishment of NBS.
“The Inspector-General of Police has also dissolved the Board of Trustees and terminated the appointment of the Directors of the NPBS,” he added. (NAN)
