Director General of National Teachers Institute,Kaduna,Dr Aminu Ladan Sharehu has called on the primary school teachers in the country to be more dedicated in teaching Mathematics and Science Subjects to their pupils.
Dr. Sharehu made call Thursday during a closing ceremony of Cycle ll, 1st Cohort National Training on strengthening Mathematics and Science Education ( SMASE) held in Kaduna.He said the essence of the programme was for the primary school pupils to benefit from the teachers training.
According to him, this could be achieved by cascading the training as structured by SMASE project.
” I congratulate the participants from FCT, Gombe, Kogi, Nasarawa and Sokoto States for successfully undergoing the two weeks intensive training. You should note that the successful completion of your training is just the beginning of a long journey towards achieving the ultimate goal of the training. ,”the DG stated.
Dr. Sharehu who was represented by the Registrar of the Institute, Mrs Safiya Balarabe said SMASE project has come to stay and will be sustained in Nigeria.
He further requested the SMASE Technical Committee and the National Coordinating Unit to come up with comprehensive guidelines for conducting SMASE training at National, State and Local levels.
The DG also added that he looks forward to seeing how the participatory states would evaluate the cycle ll training of their 200 core teachers as soon as possible.
Participants called on NTI to established model schools within its premises for the benefit of all teachers that come for the SMASE training.
