Building Collapse: FCT Police rescue 3, alert NEMA, others

The FCT Police Command has confirmed the collapse of a building located at Area 11 in Abuja on Monday.

A statement by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, Anipr noted that the there was a building collapse last night at Unity House, Area 11 by Nkwere Street.

He stated,”The FCT Police Command hereby confirms that yesterday, July 1, 2024, at about 8:40 p.m., there was a building collapse at Unity House, Area 11 by Nkwere Street.

“In response to the distress call, the Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, psc, mni, promptly moved to the scene with multiple patrol teams as first responders to cordon off the area for possible rescue. Three (3) victims were successfully evacuated from the collapsed building and rushed to the hospital for medical care.”

SP Adeh revealed that the attention of the Emergency Management Agency of Nigeria and FCT Development Control have been drawn to the situation.

“The attention of the National Emergency Management Agency of Nigeria and FCT Development Control have been drawn to the situation, and their personnel have taken charge of the area for robust management of the scene.

“Further developments will be appropriately communicated in due course,” she stated.
