There was heavy gunfire Sunday morning at the headquarters of the Department of State Security,DSS in Nigeria’s Federal Capital City, Abuja. The attack was reportedly carried out by suspected Bok Haram terrorists
Also,Prompt News online even reported “an attempt by the terrorists to attack the Presidential Villa through the gate that is almost adjacent the DSS headquarters.
“The attack was said to have been immediately prevented with timely mobilisation of the military who moved armoured personnel carriers to the area” the news portal said.
Marilyn Ogar, spokesperson of DSS was reported by Premium Times as having said “What happened was that the suspects handlers went to feed the detainees here but suddenly they attacked him with their handcuffs, disarmed him and started shooting.
“The military was quickly called in before they could do any harm and that is responsible for the shootings you heard.
“It was an attempted jailbreak but it has been brought under control.”
The security breach at the most fortified locations in the country has created unease among residents of Abuja. One observer who was asked for comments said the “true story will come out hopefully later.I don’t believe what these officials are saying.”
