The Kaduna State Government is holding a two-week-long Policy Town Hall Meetings across the 23 Local Government Areas of the state to present its achievements over the last 44 months.
Muhammad Abdullahi, Commissioner, Planning and Budget Commision, made this known to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Kaduna.
Abdullahi said the meeting, organised by the commission and Ministry of Local Government Affairs, would explain to the people what the state government did with public resources entrusted to it.
He said that the initiative was to carry the people along in the formulation, implementation and monitoring of governance, in line with Open Government Partnership (OGP) the state is part of.
According to him, the town hall meetings will bring together public office holders, community, traditional, women and youth leaders, as well as vulnerable groups and other community members to discuss issues affecting them.
”Together, they will look at the current government reforms and challenges, with a view to deepening democracy, policy ownership and enhancing sustainability across the 23 local government areas of the state.
”The meeting will specifically provide an opportunity to communicate and inform the people on the current government reforms from inception to date.
”It will also help to share achievements of the current administration in various sectors with evidence across the 23 local government areas, share experiences, challenges and expectation going to the next level.
”It will equally help the government to gather useful information from the people for decision making on the way forward,” Abdullahi said.
NAN reports that some of the major reforms undertaken by the government during the period were in the civil service, investment promotion, education, healthcare, child protection, mining development and taxation, among others. (NAN)
