Jonathan,Atiku,Anenih,Mark,Tambuwal Pay Tribute to Lar



LARPoliticians across the country have paid tribute to Chief Solomon Lar ,former civilian governor of Plateau State who passed on Wednesday. President Goodluck Jonathan said he has with immense sadness and a feeling of immense national loss, news of the passing away of the former governor of Plateau State and founding chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Solomon Daushep Lar.

“On behalf of himself and the Federal Government of Nigeria, President Jonathan extends heartfelt condolences to the Lar , Governor Jonah Jang, the of Plateau State, the of the Middle Belt and all others for whom Chief Solomon was a much beloved, charismatic and inspirational political leader”Presidential ,Reuben Abati said in a statement.

He added that “The President joins them in mourning the passage of a truly great leader whose eventful and highly successful political career predated Nigeria’s independence, having started with his election as a Councilor in the Langtang Native Authority in 1959 and continued with his election to the Federal Parliament in December, 1959.

“President Jonathan urges them to take solace in the knowledge that Chief Lar lived a long and most fulfilled life, and that his immense contributions to communal, state and national development have assured him of a amongst the eternal heroes of the Nigerian nation.

Jonathan believes that Chief Lar will always be remembered for the exemplary humility, great vision, wisdom and maturity which he brought to political leadership in Nigeria for over 50 years as a legislator, executive governor, party leader and highly revered elder statesman.

He also trusts that present and future generations of Nigerians will always acknowledge and honour Chief Lar’s role as one of the founders and architects of the country’s current democratic dispensation which he helped to establish and stabilize.

“The President prays that God Alimghty who blessed the Nigerian nation with the gift of Chief Lar’s acclaimed leadership abilities for so many decades, will receive his soul, and grant him a well deserved rest from his earthly labours.”

Also, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar reacted to the death of pioneer Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chief Solomon Daushep Lar, describing his demise as the loss of one of the country’s greatest statesmen.

“He was a leader Nigeria needed at each time of crisis,” Atiku said noting that his departure will be most felt at this time when there is growing disagreement among the country’s political elite.

Atiku said the late Chief Lar’s “fight for his middle-belt region in particular and Nigerians in general will be remembered by every worthy historian of this era.”

He prayed to God for the repose of his soul and to grant the entire Lar , and government of Plateau state and Nigerians as a whole the fortitude to bear this huge loss.

On his part,the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Tony Anenih, has described the death of former National Chairman and former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the party, Chief Solomon Daushep Lar, as a great loss to both the party and the nation.

Chief Anenih said in a reaction to the news of Lar’s death that “this is, indeed, very sad and painful.  Chief Solomon Lar was a great leader and pillar of our party.  He was a Titan of democracy whose leadership and invaluable counsel will be missed by the PDP , especially at this time when efforts are being made at genuine .”

Declaring that the elder statesman would be sorely missed by the PDP and the nation, Chief Anenih sympathized with the family members and prayed that the Almighty God would grant them the fortitude to bear the loss of a great husband, father and grandfather.

President of the Senate of the Senate Senator David Mark also lamented over the demise of a Foremost political leader and former governor of old Plateau State, Chief Solomon Lar describing him as rare Nigerian who propagated the tenet of democracy and lived to see the actualisation of the ’s will.

Reacting to the news of the passing unto glory of the elder statesman , Senator Mark noted that Chief Lar will be remembered for fighting for democracy and enthronement of the people’s mandate against all odds.

He recalled that it was Chief Lar who led the group of G-34 which later metamorphosed into today’s People’s Democratic Party (PDP) that has sustained the democratic rule all Nigerians now enjoy.

Senator Mark said: “We owe him a great deal of gratitude. He surely has a of pride in the political history of Nigeria. Lar was a different kind of leader. He put the people and the nation first before self.

“He was an easy going man . He was calculated, gentle and result-oriented leader. Regrettably the nation has lost one of her shinning stars. We shall miss his robust contributions to national issues. We shall miss his humour.

Senator Mark urged Nigerians especially the bereaved family and the PDP to take solace in the fact that Lar lived an eventful and an accomplished life worthy of emulation.

In his tribute ,Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, said he received with immense sadness and a feeling of great national loss, the news of the passing away earlier today of elder statesman per excellence, Chief Solomon Lar.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Malam Imam Imam, Tambuwal said Lar will always be remembered as a man of integrity whose forthrightness and wisdom stood him out among his peers.

He said the late former Plateau Governor lived a fulfilled life full of accomplishments and notable contributions to national unity. While praying for the repose of the soul of the elder statesman, the Speaker urged his family, friends, associates and admirers to be comforted by the knowledge that he will always be remembered as a visionary and a universally acclaimed
pacesetter who delivered positive results in all assignments he undertook.
