FCTA Sets Up Abuja Green Corps

In order to protect Abuja greenery, the FCT Administration has set-up the Abuja Green Corps under the FCT Parks and Recreation Department.The FCT Minister, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed dropped this hint on Tuesday after meeting with some officials of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC) in his office inĀ  Abuja.

The Minister revealed that the Abuja Green Corps would be used to serve abatement notices on persons and organizations that fell or destroy trees, shrubs and lawns in the Federal Capital City.According to him, the Corps will also sanction motorists moving, crisscrossing or parking on central verge and green areas, in addition to ensuring the replacement of the trees felled in double fold minimum.

Senator Mohammed disclosed that the FCT Department of Parks and Recreation has so far identified, captured and is organizing ninty three( 93) Private Plant Nurseries in the Federal Capital City for better outputs; reiterating that the exercise is ongoing.

The Minister also revealed that a special Unit has been set in the FCT Parks and Recreation Department to regulate the operations of private plant nursery throughout the Federal Capital Territory with standardized identification and organization, which will not disturb pedestrian movement on walkways.

He said that the Administration has also set up 3nos Intervention Squad/Teams to work 24 hours to immediately respond to critical situations especially during this raining season such as obstruction of traffic by trees felled by wind and/or storms.

The Minister stated the staffers of the FCT department of Parks and Recreation are being restructured to achieve all inclusiveness and better service delivery.
