President Goodluck Jonathan has vowed to ensure heavy police presence during next weekend’s gubernatorial election in Osun State.The president made this declaration at a rally in Osogbo on Saturday to campaign for Iyiola Omisore, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party,PDP.
The president said “some parties are even going to court and saying that every election day, we should remove every police officer.Do you agree with them?(“No”,the crowd roared back)”
Jonathan continued”You will recall that in 2011 election 10 young graduates,yout corpers were killed in this country.10young graduates.We will not allow that to happen again.So anybody who thinks that government will fold its hands and allow miscreants to take over the streets of Osun State and cause havoc is deceiving himself”
“We’ll make sure that Osun state is properly policed and anybody who calls himself a thug or a militant or whatever name you call yourself,you find your way to Osun state that day,be rest assured that the security operatives will deal with you according to the law”Jonathan declared.
He promised the people that his government will work with Omisore if voted by the people.”All what we need from you is your vote on the 9th of August”Jonathan pleaded.
According Jonathan PDP “is the only party that has the credentials of a democratic party.Others are just struggling to follow and they are not there yet.None of them can compete with us in terms of transparency in selecting our candidates and in terms of the way we do things and we will continue to promise Nigerians that we ‘ll make sure we solidIfy democracy in this country. ”
Those who spoke on the occasion included Vice President Namadi Sambo who deployed his ‘skills’ in Yoruba language in campaigning for Omisore.Also, Chief Tony Anenih,BOT chairman of the party, Adamu Muazu ,PDP chairman addressed the crowd.
Equally,Governor Godswill Akpabio Akwa Ibom state and Ayo Fayose ,governor-elect of Ekiti as well as ex Speaker House of Representatives ,Dimeji Bankole were among the speakers at the rally.
Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola and his All Progressives Congress,APC have continued to cry out over heavy security presence ahead of the poll.
Jonathan’s declaration confirms presidential approval of all the security manoevres thus far.
