Yuletide: Police deploys 5,500 personnel’s in Borno


 The Police Command in Borno has deployed 5,500 security personnel in the state to ensure hitch-free Christmas and New Year celebrations.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the personnel include: men of the Police Mobile Force (PMF), the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), the Anti-Bomb Squad (EOD), the Sniffer Dog Section, and the “Crack Team’’ personnel.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Abdu Umar, who disclosed this to news men in Maiduguri on Tuesday, assured the people of the command’s readiness to perform its statutory responsibility of protecting the lives and properties of all citizens.

Umar said that the command would collaborate with other sister-security agencies and all critical stakeholders to ensure that the celebrations would be peaceful and hitch-free.

He said that motorists and tricycle `Keke Napep’ operators had been warned to adhere to all traffic rules and regulations, and to eschew all forms of recklessness including drug abuse and drunkenness while behind the wheels.

He explained that the curfew was still in force, adding that the command would sanction any vehicle moving during curfew hours within the state capital.

The Commissioner urged parents and guardians to remind their children/ wards on the law banning the sales, the use of knock-outs and fireworks stressing that the law was still in force.

He added that the command would not take lightly any act capable of creating panic or threatening the relative peace and security currently being experienced in the state, noting that any offender arrested would be made to face the law.

While wishing all and sundry a happy Christmas Celebration and a Prosperous New Year, the Commissioner of Police urged the general public to be law abiding and security conscious.

He also urged them to continue to support the police in the fight against crimes and criminals in the state.

He also urged them to report promptly any strange or suspicious persons’ movements or objects to the nearest police station or other security services. (NAN)
