Governor Ramalan Mukhtar Yero of Kaduna State has approved a law establishing a vigilante service in the state as part of his robust plan to ensure peace and security of the people of the state.

The approval is on the backdrop of the recent invasion of villages in Birnin Gwari local government area of the state by unknown gunmen.

The governor, in a statement issued by his media aide Ahmed Maiyaki, said the vigilance service is expected to complement the efforts of security agencies by providing additional security in communities across the state.

To give the approval the necessary legal backing it requires, the governor’s office has already sent a letter to the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice to gazette and implement the law.
