A group, the Middle Belt Region Conciliation Group, Initiative for Conciliation and Rigth Protection ICRP- Nigeria has called on Nigerians to unite in the face of xenophobic attacks on Nigerian citizens living in South Africa.
This is contained in a statement issued by Comrade Godwin Ekoja on Friday.
It is a fact that our beloved country Nigeria is blessed with both human and natural resources. The natural resources are both renewable and none renewable spread across the 36 states.
A country that is blessed with these needs no assistance from any country to sustain itself when these resources are being managed properly, hence the atmosphere will be condusive for business purposes for both the citizens and foreign investors.
When we have in mind that globalization could be characterized in the aspect of greater integration of global markets for goods, services
and capital across borders, then we must have the understanding that
Xenophobic acts have no abode in any civil society.
The lives of all Africans matter in all African countries. Nigerians that are being killed by their fellow Africans don’t deserve to be killed and treated in that most inhuman way.
We are calling on the Authorities in South Africa to act quickly and
effectively in protecting Nigerian citizens as well as other
foreigners in their country, from the deadly Xenophobic attack by
their citizens.
We are also calling on Nigerians not to take laws into their hands in
attacking South African Companies and South African citizens in
Nigeria.
At this hard moments that Nigeria is battling with insecurity accross
the country, we are calling on the Nigerian Government to handle the
issue of the Shia Muslims and their detained leader Sheikh El-Zakzaky
with care, shun all discrimination against them and give dialogue a
chance as they have suffered the bitterness of descrimination and lost
of lives while many of them are devoted Nigerians.
We advise the Nigerain Government to work hard towards providing jobs
and busines opportunities for all Nigerians and encouage inter -faith
/Inter -ethnic dialogues for a better Nigeria as the success of Nigeria is in the unity of its people.
