Maj.-Gen. Anthony Omozoje, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division of Nigerian Army, Ibadan, on Tuesday pledged that the army would curtail all security challenges confronting areas under the division.
Omozoje gave the promise while taking over the command of the division from Maj.-Gen. Okwudili Azinta, at the division’s headquarters in Ibadan.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the division has Oyo, Osun, Ektiti, Ondo, Edo and Kwara as command area.
The GOC assured citizens of the six states that his officers would work professionally and responsively in protecting the area and country, saying they would be on top of security challenges in the area.
According to him, it is when the country is secured that the government will be able to function well and the country will prosper.
He urged the officers to always put in their best and shun nonchalant attitude in order to justify the responsibilities given to them.
“The challenges and task still remain and I implore all to maintain keen awareness of where we are as an army and nation, and what we need to do to keep moving forward.
“This requires that you must not be routine officers and put in your best at all times to achieve success,’’ he said.
Earlier, his predecessor, Azinta, had called on the officers to extend more cooperation to the new GOC than they gave to him.
Azinta said that he had known the new GOC for a long time, adding that he was someone capable of moving the division forward.
He said that Omozoje could achieve more than he did if given the support and cooperation.
“A team work is needed in the Nigerian Army to succeed. No matter how brilliant you are, you cannot succeed if you don’t carry along other officers,” Azinta said.
He also urged the officers not to use their uniform to harass citizens, but to use it for their protection by putting in their best to surmount the security challenges in the country.
NAN reports that the new GOC is the 40th to command 2 Division. (NAN)
