Governor AbdulAziz Yari Abubakar of Zamfara State has called on the United States of America to support Nigerian democracy with a view to strengthening the nation’s democracy and to ensure free and fairs 2o15 elections.
The governor stated this when he received the United State’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr James Entwistle who paid him a courtesy visit in Gusau, the state capital.
Alhaji Abubakar noted that Nigeria stands a better chance to benefit from the multi experiences of the US in different areas of development.
The governor, who further explained in detail the Nigeria’s electoral victories and challenges, noted that Nigeria is ready to defend the democracy and make sure that the spirit of one man-one vote being maintained despite any threat from the forces that be.
He then prayed that what happened in the 2011 general election will not repeat itself, urging the Independent National Electoral Commission to remain neutral and conduct free
and fair election.
Earlier, the United State’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr James Entwistle said the essence of the visit is to further avail the state with the opportunities on health, education, security
and poverty reduction.
He added that US will be willing to assist the states at any time especially on the forth coming general election with a view to conducting credible election.
