US, UK Special Forces,Others In Training Exercises With Nigerian Armed Forces



Army logoA three-week joint military training exercise involving the Nigerian Armed Forces and its foreign counterparts will commence soon in the South-West and South-South coastal areas of Nigeria.

The exercise which is designed to improve the capacity of the Armed Forces of Nigeria towards effective planning and execution of joint operations in the maritime environment will be based on the training activities of the Joint Maritime Security Training Centre and the Nigerian Army Amphibious Training School.

The exercise which code name is “AFRICAN WINDS” is being spearheaded by the Nigerian Navy and will be facilitated by a Mobile Training Team made up of marines and Special Forces drawn from the Netherlands, United States (US), United Kingdom (UK), Spain and Italy under the auspices of the African Partnership Station (APS).
The Netherlands Navy Amphibious Support Ship, the HMNLS ROTTERDAM, which is scheduled to arrive Lagos and later proceed to Calabar will feature as the major platform in the exercise.

The Nigerian Army, Navy and Air Force are all expected to participate in training event with the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) monitoring and superintending the conduct of the exercise.
