The Senate has mandated its committee on human rights to conduct an investigation into the killing of at least 8 people at Apo quarters in Abuja last week.
Senate President ,David Mark said the mandate is for the committee to provide facts for thorough discussion by the senate. He said three key issues are involved in this matter:One is terrorism, which the senate condemns; the second issue ,he said is extra judicial killing, which he also condemned and the last issue is the operational procedure leading to the saga, which remains unclear.
Newsdiaryonline.com has learnt that the senate committee will commence sitting on Monday. As at Tuesday evening however,it was not clear whether the committee’s sitting will be open to the public.
The modus operandi will be decided by Wednesday,a source said.”You know since security operatives are involved, they may like to give their briefings behind closed doors” the source said,as he added quickly, “ we shall decide on the mode of operation tomorrow”:an indication that there was an uncertainty Tuesday evening over whether the hearing will be open or behind closed doors.
