Tukur:Names Acting National Secretary
By Danlami Nmodu
National Chairman,Peoples Democratic Party,PDP , Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, has named erstwhile Deputy National Secretary, Solomon Onwe as the Acting National Secretary of PDP.He steps in the office of Olagunsoye Oyinlola who was sacked by a court last Friday
Defending his action, Tukur said he acted “pursuant to the powers conferred on the National Chairman by Chapter V Section 35 (1), 35 (1)(b) as well as section 36(2) of the constitution of the Peoples Democratic Party, (as amended).”
The national chairman said Onwe “shall by this directive conduct all correspondences of the party, issue notices of meetings of the National Convention, the National Executive Committee, the National Caucus and the National Working Committee as stipulated in the Constitution of our great Party.”
Tukur added that the “directive takes immediate effect and is hereby communicated to all the levels and offices of the Party.”But Monday’s move is viewed as yet another proof that the in- fighting within the party remains unabated.
By going ahead to replace Oyinlola,Tukur seems to have brushed aside the threat reportedly made by Oyinlola and his backers to the effect that ‘if the national secretary must go, Tukur also must go’.Tukur’s ‘courage’ in replacing Oyinlola may be an indication that the national chairman and his backers are fast moving to take control of the secretariat and send signals to the rebels within ,that he may not suffer fools gladly, henceforth.
It may be too early for any camp to jubilate, because given the twists and turns in the party so far ,this may not be the end of the story.
