Trader in court for assaulting customer on suspicion of stealing

A trader, Rapheal Ikechukwu, on Wednesday, appeared in Wuse Zone Six  Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja fpr allegedly assaulting a customer, he suspected stole his cell phone.

The police charged Ikechukwu, who resides at Federal Housing Authority ( FHA), Lugbe, Abuja, with assault.

The Prosecution Counsel, ASP  Peter Ejike, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Dec. 30, 2020 at about noon at the Intercontinental Plaza, Wuse Zone Three, Abuja.

 

 

 

 

 

 

He alleged that the defendant , who suspected that Obiemeka Felix of Kwankwase, Niger State stole his mobile phone, held him by his shirt and tore the shirt.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 265 of the Penal Code Law.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.

 

 

 

 

 

The defennce counsel, Mr  Gadaffi Nwegbe, prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Aminu Abdullahi, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N100,000, with one surety in like sum.

He adjourned the case until Feb.22, for hearing. (NAN)
