Supreme Court sacks Dakingari, orders fresh election

The Supreme Court today sacked  Kebbi State Governor, Usman Sa’idu Nasamu Dakingari. The verdict delivered by  Justice Walter Onnoghen ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to conduct fresh elections within 90 days

Today’s ruling by the apex court set aside the judgement of the Appeal Court that earlier upheld the election of Dakingari who was ‘voted’ on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The sacked governor  who  was elected in April 2007  thought he had safely secured a second  on 26 April 2011  which has now been annulled. He gained national fame when he married the daughter of later President YarAdua. The marriage to the president’s daughter observers felt may have been meant to boost his political career. But the president’s death has robbed him of such political goodwill .
