Some secondary school students in Cross River on Sunday commended The Bridge Leadership Foundation (TBLF), an NGO, for awarding them scholarships.
The students, who gave the commendation, in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) inCalabar said the organisation had relieved their parents and guardians of some financial burden.
One of the students, Edet Okon a Senior Secondary (SS) 1 student of Government College, Ikot Nakanada, Akpabuyo Local Government Area, said the award was a huge relief to his family.
Okon, a beneficiary of the 2017 TBLF scholarship award said it would enable him to complete his secondary education with less difficulty, describing it as a dream come true.
“This is a big relief for my family. I thank the founder, Sen. Liyel Imoke for this gesture,” he said.
Another beneficiary, Iquo Effiong, a student of Government Secondary School, Creek Town, Odukpani Local Government Area, was also full of praises for the initiators of TBLF.
“I thank The Bridge Leadership Foundation for the scholarship award. I never knew that my essay was going to be selected.
“I had never thought in my mind that I was going to be given a scholarship in my life but today I am very happy I have one,” she said.
Godsmin Eval, an SS1 student of Community Secondary School, Ikot Ewa, Akpabuyo Local Government Area, also commended the foundation for the gesture.
Eval, the overall winner of the TBLF essay competition, said that the foundation had embarked on a mission to raise future leaders in the state.
She expressed gratitude to God for excelling in the competition, pointing out that the award had relieved her parents of some burden in her education.
NAN reports that 30 secondary school students in public schools across the state benefited from this year’s TBLF scholarship awards.
TBLF has also mentored over 4000 students in public schools across the 18 local government areas of the state on leadership. (NAN)
