Nigerian Premier League club  chairmen would be meeting with the league’s governing body on Friday to determine the fate of the league’s  proposed to kick off on March, 9. A press release signed by the executive secretary of the league body, Tunji  Babalola stated that, the  motive behind the meeting  is to deliberate on the way forward, stating that the change in the earlier proposed date of  February 16 was due  to title sponsorship crisis rocking the league.

“The League Management Committee (LMC) will meet with all club chairmen after the draws to brief them on the progress made so far and the vision for the way forward”

Speaking to Newsdiaryonline.Com, under the condition of  anonymity, a source  said  the league body is faced with the uphill task of  how to end the feud between  the warring parties involved in the  tussle over the true owners of the  title sponsorship.

The source noted that, the failure to secure a title sponsor led to the sacking of the Baribote led  board, adding that  NPL’s primary motive of meeting with the clubs is to clarify the situation and solicit their support to commence the league without a title sponsor.

“If the league takes off, and  Globacom and Total Promotion settle their matter, then things will change,  and that is the more reason why NPL finds  it necessary to sit with the clubs and put them in the proper picture of things” our  source said.
