The Kwara Primary Health Care Development Agency has tasked journalists to lead the COVID-19 vaccination campaign through agenda-setting in their respective platforms and networks.

Dr Nusirat Elelu, the Executive Secretary of the agency, gave the task on Friday during a Media Engagement meeting with journalists in Ilorin.

She explained that the purpose of the meeting was to update the media’s knowledge about COVID-19, burden of the disease in the state, Vaccine utilisation, booster dose and areas that require urgent attention in addressing the low demand for the COVID-19 vaccines.

She therefore enjoined the media to come up with Media contents and programmes that would promote the demand of COVID-19  vaccines, and address rumours and misinformation about COVID-19 vaccines.

Elelu stressed that the COVID-19 vaccines were tested and approved by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to be free, safe and efficient.

She affirmed that government has spent so much on the COVID-19  vaccination campaign and enjoined eligible people to reciprocate the effort.

According to her, there are 253 accredited vaccination sites across the 16 local government areas of the state where they can be vaccinated for their first, second dose and after six months come back for their booster doses of the vaccine.

Dr Michael Oguntoye, the Director of Primary Healthcare System, also called on everyone to play active part to ensure that they take the jab as well as getting their friends and family vaccinated. (NAN)
